The Art and Geography of Simon Faithfull

by Vivien Park

"0˚00 Navigation," by artist Simon Faithfull, documents the journey of a determined figure traveling along the exact longitude of the Greenwich Meridian — from Peace Haven in Hampshire to Cleethorpes in Lincolnshire — using a GPS device. The piece is part of the exhibit "Going Nowhere," which explores human interactions with geographical phenomena.

Faithfull was born in Ipsden, Oxfordshire, and currently lives and works in Berlin. He completed a B.A. at the Central St. Martins School of Art in London and an M.F.A. at the University of Reading. He has exhibited internationally and recently published Limbo, an iPhone app that catalogs his growing collection of drawings from over a decade of travel.
